What is person-centred Counselling and how's if different from other counselling.

Person-centred counselling, also know as client centred or Rogerian therapy, is a humanistic approach developed by Carl Rogers in the 1950s. It is unique in its non-directive client focussed approach. Emphasising the clients capacity for self-healing and personal growth. The emphasis for this form of therapy is in the therapist-client relationship, with a focus on a supportive and non-judgmental environment.

Modalities such as psychoanalytic therapy (developed by Sigmund Freud) focus on unconscious processes and explore areas such as dream analysis and transference. Cognitive Behaviour therapy ( developed by Aaron beck) focuses on identifying and changing negative thought patterns and behaviours. In these therapies the therapist is more of an interpreter or adviser.
